In a significant administrative overhaul aimed at strengthening the state's law enforcement apparatus, the Tamil Nadu police department executed a major reshuffle on Tuesday. The move involved the transfer and promotion of more than 70 police officers across various ranks, from the Director General of Police level to Superintendents of Police.
Top-Level Appointments and Promotions
The reshuffle saw several high-ranking officers assuming new critical roles. Prem Anand Sinha, who served as Inspector General of Police (IGP), has been elevated to the rank of Additional Director General of Police (ADGP). In his new capacity, he has been appointed as the Commissioner of Police for Avadi.
Similarly, A Amalraj has been posted as the Commissioner of Police for Tambaram. In a key promotion, Davidson Devasirvatham has been promoted to the rank of Director General of Police (DGP) and will now head the state's Armed Police. Maheshwar Dayal takes charge as the ADGP for Law and Order, a pivotal position for maintaining state-wide security.
Strengthening Specialised Wings and New Posts
The restructuring placed special emphasis on enhancing specialised investigation wings and creating new posts to address contemporary challenges. T S Anbu was promoted to ADGP and appointed as the chief of the CB-CID. Anisha Hussain's promotion to ADGP led to her appointment for a newly created post: ADGP for Crimes Against Women and Children.
In the cyber and economic offences domains, two officers saw their posts upgraded. Sandeep Mittal was promoted to DGP and will continue to lead the Cyber Crime Wing, while Bala Naga Devi was promoted to DGP and continues as the head of the Economic Offences Wing (EOW).
Other notable appointments include Najmal Hoda as ADGP (Operations), K Shankar as Director of Prisons and Correctional Services, and R Dhinakaran as ADGP of the Tamil Nadu Police Academy.
Changes at IGP, DIG, and SP Levels
The reshuffle also impacted officers at the IGP and Deputy Inspector General (DIG) levels. Sonal Chandra was promoted to IGP and posted to lead the State Crime Records Bureau (SCRB). Among DIG-level postings, G Shashank Sai was posted to the Kancheepuram Range, and N Manivannan was promoted and appointed as the Commissioner of Police for Tirunelveli.
Officers returning from central deputation were also rewarded. Deepak M Damor was promoted to ADGP, while R V Ramya Bharathi and R Ponni were promoted to the IGP rank. Furthermore, several Superintendents of Police, including Georgy George and C Kalaichelvan, were elevated to the DIG rank.
This large-scale administrative exercise is strategically designed to infuse fresh leadership and strengthen operational efficiency across police commissionerates, specialised investigative wings, and field formations throughout Tamil Nadu. The move is expected to bring new perspectives to key roles and address evolving law and order requirements in the state.
