The Telangana government has announced the procurement of 40 lakh metric tonnes (MT) of paddy during the ongoing rabi season of 2025-26. In an official statement released on Monday, the state government revealed that a total of 8,575 procurement centres have been established across Telangana to facilitate the purchase of rabi crops. Following the procurement process, payments amounting to Rs 6,462 crore have already been disbursed to farmers for the grain acquired so far.
Record number of procurement centres
According to government officials, the number of procurement centres set up this year is the highest ever recorded during any rabi season. A comparative analysis shows a steady increase over the years: 6,609 centres in 2021-22, 7,037 in 2022-23, 7,178 in 2023-24, 8,378 in 2024-25, and 8,575 in the current season of 2025-26. This marks a significant expansion in the state's efforts to support farmers.
Comparison with previous seasons
Officials highlighted that the procurement as of May 18 this year is substantially higher than that of the 2021-22 rabi season under the previous government. During that period, only 21.79 lakh MT of paddy had been purchased, whereas this year the figure has reached 40 lakh MT. This represents an additional 18.24 lakh MT of paddy procured compared to the 2021-22 season.
Furthermore, the current year's purchases have also surpassed those made during the 2022-23 rabi season under the previous administration. By May 18 in 2022-23, 30.4 lakh MT had been purchased, while this year the procurement has reached 40 lakh MT, demonstrating a notable increase in the scale of operations.
