Telangana Achieves Historic Paddy Procurement Milestone

Hyderabad witnessed a significant agricultural announcement on Tuesday. Civil Supplies and Irrigation Minister N Uttam Kumar Reddy extended warm Sankranti greetings to the people of Telangana. He described the festival as a celebration of gratitude and prosperity. The minister specifically highlighted the crucial role of farmers in this festive season.

Record-Breaking Procurement Numbers

Minister Reddy revealed impressive statistics about the state's paddy procurement. Telangana procured a record 70.82 lakh metric tonnes of paddy during the kharif marketing season 2025-26. This achievement surpasses the previous high of 70.2 LMT. The minister called this a historic milestone for the state.

This procurement represents the highest-ever recorded not only in Telangana but across any state in the entire country. The scale of this operation has directly benefited 13.97 lakh farmers through minimum support price operations.

Detailed Breakdown of Procurement

The minister provided a detailed breakdown of the procured paddy. Of the total 70.82 LMT, 32.45 lakh metric tonnes consisted of the coarse variety. Meanwhile, 38.37 lakh metric tonnes represented the fine grade paddy. All procured paddy has already been shifted to mills for processing.

Financial aspects of this procurement exercise show substantial support for farmers. The total MSP value of the procured paddy amounted to 16,912 crore rupees. Payments of 16,602 crore rupees have already been disbursed to farmers. This achieves an impressive 98% payment rate.

Additional Support for Farming Community

The government provided additional financial support to farmers. Bonus payments totaling 1,425 crore rupees have been distributed. This extra support aims to strengthen the farming community further.

Logistical efforts made this massive procurement possible. Authorities opened as many as 8,448 purchase centers across Telangana. These centers facilitated the smooth collection of paddy from farmers throughout the state.

Minister Reddy reaffirmed the government's strong commitment to farmer welfare. He emphasized that support was extended to farmers with timely MSP payments. The government also provided incentives such as bonuses for fine varieties of paddy.
