Chennai: The two-language policy is fundamental not only to Tamil Nadu but also to the Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK), school education minister Rajmohan stated on Monday. He reiterated that the state firmly adheres to communicating in English with the rest of the world while using Tamil for internal interactions. "Among ourselves we will speak in Tamil," he emphasized.
Discussion on PM SHRI Schools
In response to reports that the Central government has sent letters to Tamil Nadu regarding the launch of PM Schools for Rising India (PM SHRI) in the state, the minister clarified that the matter was discussed during a review meeting. "We need to assess whether the policies align with Tamil Nadu's goals. We have only held the first meeting so far," he explained.
School Reopening and Textbook Distribution
Regarding the reopening of schools, the minister confirmed that instructions have been issued to ensure all books and uniforms reach students on the first day of school. He added, "More decisions pertaining to the education department will be taken in subsequent meetings."
New Textbooks for Classes I-III
Earlier, the minister released new textbooks for classes I to III, developed in line with the state education policy (SEP) launched in 2025. Officials from the school education department stated that these textbooks are structured to encourage a child-centric learning approach through stories, songs, and engaging activities. According to a department release, the books are designed to help students understand and learn easily, develop individual talents, and achieve expected learning outcomes. They feature attractive colour designs and include content aimed at developing life skills, motor skills, socio-emotional skills, and values.
