Women-led enterprise has found a sweet success story in 'Choco Tales', a chocolate manufacturing unit in Tadepalligudem run entirely by SHG women. Supported under the Prime Minister's micro food processing enterprises scheme, the unit has expanded its operations, gained national visibility, and established itself as a sustainable and replicable business model for women's entrepreneurship.
Turning Environmental Challenges into Opportunities
The district's approach brilliantly converts persistent problems into sources of livelihood and environmental conservation. A prime example is the issue of water hyacinth clogging irrigation canals. Instead of using harmful chemicals, the invasive plant is now manually removed and processed into organic compost.
This initiative serves multiple goals: it protects irrigation channels and local biodiversity, while generating a new income stream for Village Organisations and the SHG women involved in the processing work. It is a practical application of the circular economy principles praised by the state leadership.
