Formula 1 and the FIA have confirmed that Malaysia will host the 2026 Formula 1 Gulf Air Bahrain Grand Prix at Sepang International Circuit from October 2 to 4. The event, subject to final approvals including the World Motor Sport Council, will replace the original Bahrain round and slots between the Azerbaijan and Singapore Grands Prix on the calendar.
Preserving a Grand Prix through international cooperation
The agreement between Formula 1, the FIA, the Government of Bahrain, and the Government of Malaysia ensures that a Grand Prix that would otherwise have been cancelled can go ahead. The rest of the 2026 schedule remains unchanged. Sepang, known for its challenging layout, passionate fans, and unpredictable weather, will provide a fitting venue for the championship round.

His Royal Highness Prince Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa, Crown Prince and Prime Minister of Bahrain, said: "With the blessings of His Majesty King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa and His Majesty Sultan Ibrahim Ibni Sultan Iskandar, and building on the close relations between our two countries, I am proud to join Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim in announcing that Bahrain will host the Formula 1 Grand Prix at Sepang." Prime Minister Dato' Seri Anwar Ibrahim of Malaysia expressed gratitude for Bahrain's trust, stating: "This collaboration reflects the enduring friendship and close partnership between Malaysia and Bahrain, while reaffirming Malaysia's readiness to host major international events."
FIA and Formula 1 leadership praise collaboration
FIA President Mohammed Ben Sulayem said: "I am incredibly proud of the collaboration that will enable Malaysia to host the 2026 Bahrain Grand Prix at Sepang. Throughout this process, we worked tirelessly to explore every option, with safety remaining our highest priority." He thanked the kings and crown prince for their vision.
