Land Handover for Velodrome
The Mysore Development Authority has officially handed over a 17.35-acre plot in the Sathgalli area to the Department of Youth Empowerment and Sports (DYES) for the development of Karnataka's second cycling velodrome. The land transfer marks a significant step forward in the state's efforts to expand sports infrastructure, particularly for cycling, which has been gaining popularity in the region.
Planned Sports Facilities
According to the Mysore Development Authority's announcement, the DYES plans to allocate 6 to 8 acres of the total land specifically for the construction of the cycling velodrome. The remaining area will be utilized for developing a range of sports facilities, with an estimated investment of Rs 100 crore. These facilities are expected to include tracks, training centers, and supporting amenities for athletes, aiming to create a comprehensive sports hub in the region.
Significance for Karnataka Sports
Karnataka already has one cycling velodrome in Bengaluru, and the addition of a second in Mysore is seen as a boost for cycling events and training at the state and national levels. The new velodrome will cater to both competitive cyclists and grassroots talent, potentially hosting regional and national tournaments.
