Marathon Runner Completes 5K Run Inside Airplane Bathroom During 11-Hour Flight
An 11-hour flight typically involves watching movies, taking naps, and dealing with stiff legs. However, for one dedicated marathon runner, it became an opportunity to complete a 5-kilometer run in the most unconventional setting imaginable: inside an airplane bathroom.
The Viral In-Flight Workout
Content creator and running enthusiast Dom Stroh, who posts under the social media handle @dom.stroh, shared a video that has since gone viral, amassing nearly two million views. The footage shows him executing a planned 5K run not in the aircraft aisle, but within the confined space of an airplane lavatory.
The video captures Stroh squeezing into the tight bathroom, starting his smartwatch, and repeatedly stepping in circles. At one point, he steps up onto the closed toilet lid, turns around, and steps down, repeating this motion continuously. The clip includes text overlay displaying statistics from Strava, the popular activity-tracking app used by runners and cyclists. According to the data, he maintained this movement for nearly an hour.
The caption on the video reads: “11 hour flight, but 5K Run on the plan.” Exactly how Stroh avoided dizziness in such a cramped space remains unclear, as does his travel destination. Reports indicate that media outlets have reached out to him for comment.
Online Reactions: Amusement and Disbelief
The video quickly sparked a wave of reactions across social media platforms, with viewers expressing a mix of amusement and disbelief at the unconventional in-flight activity.
- One user humorously commented, “So now ik, the reason behind that turbulence.”
- Another viewer expressed concern about potential consequences, writing, “You’re gonna be the reason when there’s no running signs in the toilet.”
- A third person questioned the motivation behind the stunt, asking: “How far are you willing to go to do stupid things on social media to gain visibility?”
While passengers on long-haul flights are often encouraged to get up and stretch periodically to prevent stiffness or blood clots, transforming an airplane bathroom into a personal training studio is certainly not standard in-flight behavior.
Not the Only Mid-Air Controversy
As unusual as Stroh’s in-flight workout may seem, it is far from the only headline-making incident to occur at cruising altitude. According to reports from East2West, another passenger on a flight from Doha to Moscow recently made waves for different reasons.
A video obtained by the outlet showed a woman reclining her seat and placing her feet on the seat in front of her, forcing the passenger seated there to crouch down uncomfortably. Fellow passengers and flight crew reportedly intervened in the situation.
“They tried to persuade her, tried and tried,” one observer said. “They tried to persuade her to move her legs. She doesn’t want to, she wants to fly like this. People are going mad.” Eventually, according to the outlet, the woman relented and moved her feet.
These incidents highlight the ongoing challenges and occasional controversies surrounding passenger behavior during air travel, as individuals find creative—and sometimes controversial—ways to pass the time on long flights.
