WNBA Star Arike Ogunbowale Faces Battery Charge Following Miami Nightclub Altercation
Milwaukee native and professional basketball player Arike Ogunbowale was arrested in the early hours of March 5 after she allegedly attacked a security officer at a prominent Miami nightclub. The incident occurred during celebrations for her team's recent championship victory in the Unrivaled 3-on-3 league.
Details of the Arrest and Alleged Incident
According to police reports obtained by multiple media outlets, Miami officers were called to E11EVEN nightclub at approximately 4:22 a.m. in response to a physical altercation. The 24-hour establishment has gained notoriety for hosting championship teams, including recent celebrations by Olympic athletes.
The arresting officer was flagged down by security personnel who reported an ongoing fight inside the venue. Upon entering, the officer observed a large crowd being escorted out by club staff. The alleged victim, a security officer, claimed he was attempting to remove Ogunbowale from the premises due to an unrelated dispute when she allegedly punched him in the face with a closed fist, causing him to fall to the ground.
Ogunbowale, 29, was taken into custody without incident and charged with misdemeanor battery. She has since been released, with an Unrivaled league representative confirming to Front Office Sports: "She is not. She is home safely."
Championship Celebration Context
The altercation occurred as Ogunbowale and her Mist teammates were celebrating their Unrivaled league championship victory. Just one day earlier on March 4, Ogunbowale had scored 19 points to help her team defeat the Phantom 80-74 in the championship game held in Medley, Florida. During the semifinal round, the Divine Savior Holy Angels alumnus had made a game-winning three-pointer that propelled her team to the finals.
The Unrivaled league, a professional 3-on-3 basketball organization, has gained prominence for featuring top women's basketball talent. Ogunbowale's participation in the league comes alongside her established WNBA career.
