Barcelona Plan for Life After Lewandowski with Joao Pedro and Sorloth
Barcelona Eye Joao Pedro and Sorloth as Lewandowski Replacements

Barcelona have already begun planning for life after Robert Lewandowski, and two names are emerging as primary targets. Reports indicate that the club is considering Chelsea forward Joao Pedro and Atletico Madrid striker Alexander Sorloth as potential replacements for the Polish striker.

Lewandowski's Uncertain Future

This planning comes amid ongoing uncertainty surrounding Lewandowski's future, despite his contract running until June 2026. While nothing is confirmed, there is a strong sense that this summer could bring significant changes to Barcelona's attack. Lewandowski has been linked with moves to leagues in Saudi Arabia and the United States. Consequently, while the team continues its pursuit of the LaLiga title, the club is quietly preparing for what lies ahead.

Targets Identified

According to journalist Matteo Moretto, as reported by Reshad Rahman, Barcelona have identified Joao Pedro and Alexander Sorloth as two main options. Another name, Julian Alvarez, was previously discussed but appears difficult due to high costs and other complications.

Joao Pedro only joined Chelsea in 2025 but has already made a significant impact, scoring 19 goals in 46 matches across all competitions in his debut season. His contract runs until 2033, making any transfer complicated. Chelsea may be reluctant to let him go given his strong performances.

On the other hand, Alexander Sorloth presents a different scenario. He is under contract with Atletico Madrid until 2028 but is not always a regular starter. Despite this, his numbers are solid, with 19 goals in 49 appearances, though he has started only 25 of those games. This could make him a more realistic option if Barcelona decide to act swiftly.

Financial and Squad Considerations

However, nothing will materialize unless several factors align. Barcelona need to resolve their financial situation, create space in the squad, and convince the chosen player. Therefore, this is not a quick deal but rather a carefully considered plan.

Hansi Flick's Stance

Meanwhile, head coach Hansi Flick remained composed when asked about Lewandowski. Speaking before the Osasuna match, he said via Barca Universal, "We've spoken, but that's something between the two of us. We're focusing on the five remaining matches. Once we're done, we'll talk and see what happens."

For now, Barcelona's full focus is on winning the LaLiga title. They lead the table with 85 points from 33 games, sitting eleven points ahead of Real Madrid. The upcoming Clasico on May 11 could be decisive, unless results go in their favor earlier.
