Delhi Capitals (DC) captain Axar Patel expressed disappointment with his spinners after the team suffered a crushing eight-wicket loss to Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) in the Indian Premier League (IPL). Speaking at the post-match presentation, Patel admitted that the spin bowlers made quite a few mistakes, which allowed KKR to chase down the target comfortably.
Match Summary
Batting first, DC managed to post a modest total of 137 runs for the loss of 8 wickets in their allotted 20 overs. In response, KKR achieved the target with ease, reaching 139 for 2 in just 16.3 overs. The win was powered by a brilliant unbeaten 73 off 39 balls from Sunil Narine, who was named Player of the Match.
Axar Patel's Remarks
Patel, who took over as captain after Rishabh Pant was ruled out due to injury, highlighted the lack of discipline in the spin department. "Our spinners made quite a few mistakes in terms of line and length. When you are defending a small total, you need to be accurate, but we weren't," he said. He also praised Narine's aggressive batting, which put pressure on the DC bowlers from the start.
The DC skipper further noted that the pitch was on the slower side, and the team had hoped to restrict KKR to a lower score. However, the spinners failed to capitalize on the conditions. "We knew it would be a slow pitch, but we still gave away too many loose deliveries. That cost us the game," Patel added.
KKR's Dominance
KKR's chase was led by Narine, who smashed 5 fours and 6 sixes during his innings. He was well supported by Shreyas Iyer, who remained unbeaten on 33 off 32 balls. The duo added 104 runs for the second wicket, effectively sealing the match for their team.
With this win, KKR moved to the top of the IPL points table, while DC remained in the lower half. Patel acknowledged that his team needs to regroup quickly and work on their shortcomings ahead of the next match.
"We have to learn from our mistakes and come back stronger. The tournament is long, and we have the ability to turn things around," he concluded.
