Piyush Chawla on Delhi Capitals: Stay United, Play with Freedom
Piyush Chawla: Stay United, Play with Freedom for DC

Veteran spinner Piyush Chawla has stressed the importance of staying together and playing with freedom as the Delhi Capitals look to turn their IPL campaign around. In a recent interaction, Chawla shared his thoughts on the team's current mindset and the path forward.

Team Unity Key to Success

Chawla, who has been a part of multiple IPL franchises, believes that cohesion within the squad is paramount. "It is important to stay together as a unit," he said. "When you have a bunch of players who trust each other and share a common goal, it reflects on the field."

The 35-year-old leg-spinner, known for his experience and calm demeanor, emphasized that the team must back each other through thick and thin. He noted that external distractions can be minimized when the team remains united.

Playing with Freedom

According to Chawla, players need the freedom to express themselves on the field. "When you play with fear, you are not able to give your best. The management has given us the liberty to play our natural game, and that is crucial," he explained.

He added that the coaching staff, led by Ricky Ponting, has created an environment where players can thrive without the pressure of results. This approach, Chawla believes, will eventually yield positive outcomes.

Learning from Setbacks

Delhi Capitals have faced a mixed start to the season, but Chawla remains optimistic. "Every team goes through ups and downs. What matters is how we bounce back," he said. The team has been working on specific areas, including death bowling and middle-order batting, to address their shortcomings.

Chawla also highlighted the role of senior players in mentoring the younger lot. "We have a good mix of youth and experience. The seniors are guiding the youngsters, and that is helping the team grow," he noted.

Focus on Process

Rather than obsessing over results, Chawla emphasized the need to focus on the process. "If we keep doing the right things, the results will follow. We are not looking too far ahead. It is about taking one game at a time," he stated.

With several matches remaining in the league stage, Chawla is confident that Delhi Capitals can still make a strong push for the playoffs. "We have the talent and the determination. It is about executing our plans on the field," he concluded.
