South Africa to Host India and Australia Women's Teams in ICC Women's Championship 2025-29
In a significant development for international women's cricket, South Africa has been confirmed as the host nation for tours by the India and Australia Women's cricket teams during the ICC Women's Championship 2025-29 cycle. This announcement, made by Cricket South Africa (CSA), underscores the growing prominence of women's cricket on the global stage.
Historic Tours and Test Matches
The tours are set to feature a mix of One-Day Internationals (ODIs), Twenty20 Internationals (T20Is), and rare Test matches, adding to the excitement for fans and players alike. India Women will tour South Africa in December 2026 for a three-match ODI series, which is a crucial part of the ICC Women's Championship. This championship cycle will determine qualification for the 2029 ICC Women's Cricket World Cup, making every match pivotal.
India's tour will also include a one-off Test match, scheduled to be played in Gqeberha from December 20 to 23, 2026. This Test marks the fourth red-ball encounter between India and South Africa Women's teams and only the second Women's Test to be held in Gqeberha, highlighting its historical significance.
Australia's Extensive Tour in 2027
Australia Women will embark on a more extensive tour to South Africa in March 2027. Their schedule includes three T20Is, three ODIs, and a one-off Test match. The Test, set for April 8 to 11, 2027, in Potchefstroom, will be just the second time Australia and South Africa Women's teams face each other in red-ball cricket. Their previous meeting in Perth in February 2024 saw Australia secure a commanding innings-and-284-run victory, setting the stage for a highly anticipated rematch.
Official Statements and Fan Engagement
Pholetsi Moseki, Chief Executive Officer of Cricket South Africa, expressed enthusiasm about hosting these top-tier teams. "We are delighted to host two of the world's leading teams in India and Australia for what promises to be a blockbuster home summer for the Proteas Women," Moseki stated. He added, "These tours will showcase the very best of international women's cricket and build on the encouraging rise in fan attendance, as we continue to welcome growing crowds across the country to watch world-class players competing at some of our iconic venues."
