A school van transporting several girl students was struck from behind by a city bus on Wednesday morning at Moti Tanki Chowk in Rajkot, resulting in the van overturning. The incident, captured on CCTV cameras, left one student with minor injuries, according to reports.
Details of the Collision
The accident occurred when the school van, heading from Moti Tanki Chowk toward Kotak School, was hit by a city bus traveling from Limda Chowk toward Moti Tanki Chowk. CCTV footage that later circulated on social media shows the bus colliding with the rear of the van as both vehicles converged at the junction. The force of the impact, combined with the presence of a road divider, caused the van to topple onto its side.
Possible Causes
While the footage suggests that the van driver may have been speeding, the bus driver also failed to stop in time, leading to the crash. More than eight students were in the van at the time of the accident. Both vehicles sustained damage, but no serious injuries were reported among the students.
Police Response
Following the collision, personnel from the Pradyuman Nagar police station arrived at the scene. Police officials stated that an official complaint has yet to be registered. Authorities are reviewing the CCTV footage to determine the exact sequence of events and any potential negligence.
Safety Concerns
The incident has raised concerns about road safety around schools and the need for stricter enforcement of traffic rules, especially for vehicles carrying children. Local residents have called for better traffic management at the busy Moti Tanki Chowk intersection, which has seen multiple accidents in the past.
