Former India chief selector Kris Srikkanth has thrown his weight behind the inclusion of veteran all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja in India's ODI squad for the upcoming home series. Speaking to a sports channel, Srikkanth emphasized Jadeja's proven match-winning ability with both bat and ball, which he believes is indispensable for the team's balance. "Jadeja brings a unique combination of skills that very few players in the world possess. His experience in pressure situations makes him a valuable asset," Srikkanth stated.

Jadeja, 37, has played 197 ODIs, scoring 2,756 runs at an average of 32.42 and taking 220 wickets with his left-arm spin. His strike rate of 89.1 in ODIs highlights his aggressive batting style, while his economy rate of 4.91 underscores his bowling efficiency. In the recent domestic season, Jadeja amassed 450 runs and picked up 18 wickets in the Vijay Hazare Trophy, proving his form is intact. "His numbers speak for themselves. A player who contributes in all three facets of the game is rare," added Srikkanth.
Current Team Dynamics and Selection Dilemma
India's current ODI squad features a packed middle order with players like Hardik Pandya, Axar Patel, and Washington Sundar competing for the all-rounder slots. However, Srikkanth argued that Jadeja's superior fielding and wicket-taking ability in the middle overs give him an edge. "In ODIs, you need someone who can break partnerships and also accelerate the scoring. Jadeja does both effortlessly," he said. The selectors are expected to announce the squad next week for the three-match series against New Zealand.
