Zaheer Khan Hails Bowlers' Comeback in IPL 2026, Backs Bhuvi

MUMBAI: Former India pace spearhead Zaheer Khan expressed delight over the resurgence of bowlers in the ongoing Indian Premier League (IPL) 2026 season. Speaking on the sidelines of a promotional event on Wednesday, Zaheer noted a significant shift in the dynamics of the tournament, where bowlers are once again making a strong impact.

Bowlers Regaining Dominance

Zaheer highlighted the recent trend of low scores being successfully defended, with teams being bowled out for modest totals. He said, 'I am very happy to see bowlers coming back in the IPL. You have seen low scores, 155 being defended, teams bowled out for 70-odd. It shows that aggression and the right approach are working.' This observation underscores a tactical evolution where bowling attacks are employing more aggressive strategies to curb run-scoring.

Bhuvneshwar Kumar's Comeback Trail

At the center of this bowling resurgence is veteran pacer Bhuvneshwar Kumar, whose consistent performances for Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) have reignited discussions about a potential return to the Indian national team. Zaheer believes that Bhuvneshwar still has plenty to offer at the highest level. 'It is great to see Bhuvi delivering like this. I am sure he is thinking along those lines. The IPL has always been a platform to push for national selection, and he is making a strong statement,' Zaheer noted. Bhuvneshwar's ability to swing the ball both ways and his death bowling expertise make him a valuable asset for any format.

Patience Advised for Bumrah

Regarding Jasprit Bumrah's lean run in the tournament, where he has managed only two wickets in seven games, Zaheer urged patience. 'Every bowler goes through phases like this. It does not define you. Bumrah is aware of it, and with games left, he can still turn it around,' he said. Bumrah, known for his unorthodox action and pinpoint yorkers, has been struggling for rhythm but remains a key figure in India's bowling lineup.

Young Quicks Impress

Zaheer also expressed optimism about the emerging pace talents in the IPL, particularly Lucknow Super Giants' (LSG) Mohsin Khan and Prince Yadav. 'Mohsin has had a stop-start run because of injuries. The skill is there, but he needs to stay fit and play consistently. Prince, on the other hand, has put in the hard yards and is reaping the rewards. It is exciting to see such talent coming through,' Zaheer remarked. Mohsin Khan's ability to generate bounce and movement has been hampered by fitness issues, while Prince Yadav's disciplined bowling has earned him accolades.
