Google Health 5.0 Rolls Out on Android with New Widget, Retires Fitbit Branding
Google Health 5.0 Rolls Out on Android, Retires Fitbit Branding

Google Health 5.0 is now rolling out on Android devices, bringing a new homescreen Quick Access Widget and officially retiring Fitbit branding from the app icon. The update began rolling out on May 19, with full availability expected by May 26.

New Quick Access Widget

The headline feature is the Quick Access Widget. It replaces the older circular Steps widget and mirrors the focus section at the top of the Today tab. At its largest 5x3 layout, the widget displays up to six metrics simultaneously, making it useful for users who track more than just steps. Users can also shrink it to a single stat for a minimalist homescreen.

Tapping anywhere on the widget opens the full stats page inside the app. The heart icon in the top-left corner launches Google Health, while a button on the right opens Health Coach. A refresh button is included, and the center of the widget shows the last data sync time. Removing the Steps or Weekly cardio ring frees up space for denser metrics, ideal for crowded homescreens.

Fitbit Branding Retired

Version 5.0 marks the official exit of Fitbit branding from the app. The icon is now Google Health, and the Fitbit name will be reserved for hardware only. This update is a hard requirement for pairing the new Fitbit Air tracker, launching next week.

The app is built around four tabs: Today, Fitness, Sleep, and Health. Google Health Coach, powered by Gemini AI, is integrated across all tabs. Fitbit Premium subscribers are now on Google Health Premium, and new Google Account users receive a three-month trial after updating.

Additional Features

US users can sync medical records into the app. Leaderboards now cover cardio load alongside steps, and cycle tracking gets a fully interactive calendar. Google Fit users will be invited to migrate their data later this year.
