Formula E drivers had a month-long break before flying to China for the Sanya E-Prix. However, what has surprised many of them is the intense summer heat, with temperatures exceeding 30°C. From Jake Dennis and Felipe Drugovich to Nico Muller, several drivers remarked that it was extremely hot in Sanya, with track temperatures expected to be even higher. They took to Instagram to share their reactions to the sweltering conditions.
Formula E Drivers React to the Summer Heat in China
Taking to his Instagram Stories, Jake Dennis shared a glimpse from his sea-facing hotel balcony and simply wrote: “Might be too hot.” He celebrated his 31st birthday by travelling from Switzerland to China for the Sanya E-Prix. The driver received a pleasant surprise upon his arrival, with a helmet-shaped cake and several birthday gifts displayed in his hotel room. Sharing the video on his Instagram Stories, he wrote: “How nice.”
His Andretti teammate Felipe Drugovich also shared a glimpse of the beach on his Instagram Stories and wrote: “31 degrees. Hot race ahead.” Taking to his Instagram Stories, Porsche driver Nico Muller also shared glimpses of the beach, the trees and the circuit after arriving in Sanya. Sharing a picture of himself in his race suit, he wrote on Instagram: “FE round 11 in Sanya this Saturday. Ready to sweat and have some fun #nm51 #porsche #formulae #raceborn.”
Formula E also shared a video of Jaguar TCS Racing driver Mitch Evans during an interview, in which he simply said: “It’s hot” in Sanya.
How Hot Will It Be on Race Day at Sanya E-Prix?
The summer heat in Sanya is expected to be a major challenge on race day. According to AccuWeather, temperatures are forecast to be around 32°C, with a RealFeel temperature of approximately 41°C, although cloudy conditions are expected. There may be some rain a day before, which could provide some relief for the drivers and teams.
The Sanya E-Prix weekend begins on Friday, 19 June, with the first free practice session (FP1) in the evening. Saturday will be a busy day, featuring another practice session in the morning, followed by qualifying at 10:40 am and the Round 11 race at 3:05 pm local time.
