Ariyalur Cybercrime Police Arrest Two from Delhi in ₹7.7 Lakh Job Fraud Case
In a significant crackdown on online fraud, the cybercrime wing of Ariyalur district police has arrested two youths from New Delhi for allegedly cheating a 37-year-old woman of ₹7.7 lakh under the false promise of securing her a job abroad. The victim, identified as S Indumathi from Udayarpalayam in Ariyalur district, is a nurse who had previously worked in Saudi Arabia for 12 years and was actively seeking to resume her overseas career.
Details of the Fraudulent Scheme
According to police reports, Indumathi had registered her credentials on various job portals to explore opportunities abroad. The accused, identified as Ankit Kumar Singh, 26, from New Delhi, and Danish Ghani, 30, from Uttar Pradesh, allegedly contacted her last year. They directed her to upload additional details on a fake job consultancy website, which they operated to appear legitimate.
The fraudsters then conducted a sham online interview to further deceive the victim. Over time, they collected money in instalments through Unified Payments Interface (UPI) transactions, citing various fees such as registration, customs, courier, and visa processing. In total, Indumathi transferred ₹7.7 lakh, hoping to secure a job offer that never materialised.
Investigation and Arrest
When the promised job offers failed to appear and the money was not returned, Indumathi lodged a formal complaint with the cybercrime police in September 2025. The investigation team, led by Inspector Isaivani, meticulously analysed IP addresses and UPI transaction details to trace the accused.
Police revealed that Ankit Kumar Singh financed the entire fraudulent operation. During the investigation, authorities seized three mobile phones that were used to run the fake website and facilitate the scam. A special team was dispatched to New Delhi, where they successfully arrested the duo and brought them to Ariyalur for further legal proceedings.
On Tuesday, the accused were remanded in judicial custody, marking a crucial step in bringing the perpetrators to justice. This case highlights the growing threat of cybercrime and the importance of vigilance when dealing with online job offers, especially those involving overseas opportunities.
