In a remarkable display of technology and human effort, two tourists from Shikrapur, Pune, were saved from drowning off Kashid beach in Murud taluka on Friday evening. The robotic watercraft, a state-of-the-art rescue device, played a pivotal role in the operation.
Incident Details
The victims, identified as Atharv Gaikwad (19) and Sumit Bhujbal (17), had entered the sea for a swim but were caught off guard by high tide waves. Despite knowing how to swim, they struggled in the rough waters for about 15 minutes before help arrived.
Rescue Operation
Constable Pravin Rotkar provided insights into the rescue effort, stating, “The waves were coming in the way between the two and the watercraft, which was also toppling. Two lifeguards, Arfat Saudagar and Shubham Lad, had entered the sea.” He further added that the group and others present at the beach were among those who were alerted not to venture into the water.
The robotic buoy, which has now been used in six successful rescues in less than a month, proved its effectiveness once again. Recently, a couple from Pune was also rescued from the same beach using this innovative watercraft.
Safety Advisory
Authorities have urged beachgoers to heed warnings and avoid venturing into the sea during high tide. The successful deployment of the robotic watercraft highlights the importance of modern technology in saving lives along the coastline.
