Russia Unveils Molniya-13 Heavy Drone
Russia has unveiled the Molniya-13, a new heavy-class battlefield drone designed to deliver greater firepower, survivability, and operational flexibility. Building on the earlier Molniya-2 platform, the new drone features a larger fuselage, four electric motors, a 13-kilogram payload capacity, and an operational range of up to 50 kilometers.
Design Enhancements and Capabilities
Russian developers say the upgraded design provides improved stability in adverse weather conditions and reduces the risk of mission failure if a motor is damaged or lost. The Molniya-13 is designed for multiple combat roles, including target monitoring, battlefield reconnaissance, transportation missions, and aerial strikes against fortified positions and light armored vehicles.
Performance and Stealth Features
With a cruising speed of 120 kilometers per hour and a relatively small radar signature, the drone is intended to rapidly reach targets while remaining difficult to detect. The four electric motors contribute to a quieter operation compared to traditional combustion engines, enhancing its stealth profile.
Operational Flexibility
The Molniya-13's modular design allows for rapid reconfiguration between reconnaissance and strike roles. Developers emphasize that the drone can loiter over a target area for extended periods, providing real-time intelligence or delivering precision strikes as needed.
