Tata Motors has officially teased the upcoming Sierra EV, confirming its debut on June 30. The electric SUV, which revives the iconic Sierra nameplate, will feature a 75kWh battery pack, promising a range of up to 500 kilometers on a single charge. The teaser images reveal a retro-modern design with a muscular stance, LED lighting, and a closed-off grille typical of EVs.
Battery and Range Details
The Sierra EV will be underpinned by Tata's Gen 2 architecture, designed specifically for electric vehicles. The 75kWh battery is expected to support fast charging, allowing a 10-80% charge in under 60 minutes. Tata claims the vehicle will deliver a real-world range of around 450-500 km, making it competitive with rivals like the MG ZS EV and Hyundai Kona Electric.
Expected Features and Technology
Leaked specifications suggest the Sierra EV will come equipped with a 12.3-inch touchscreen infotainment system, digital instrument cluster, panoramic sunroof, and connected car technology with over-the-air updates. Safety features are expected to include six airbags, electronic stability control, and a 360-degree camera. The SUV will also offer multiple drive modes and regenerative braking levels.
Design and Dimensions
Teaser images show a boxy silhouette with flared wheel arches, reminiscent of the original Sierra. The EV measures approximately 4.3 meters in length, with a wheelbase of around 2.7 meters. The interior is expected to be a five-seater with a premium cabin featuring sustainable materials.
Expected Price and Launch Timeline
According to industry sources, the Tata Sierra EV is likely to be priced between Rs 25 lakh and Rs 30 lakh (ex-showroom). Bookings may open immediately after the unveiling, with deliveries expected to commence by late 2026. The launch event on June 30 will also reveal the final specifications and variant details.
Competition and Market Position
The Sierra EV will compete in the growing mid-size electric SUV segment, taking on the MG ZS EV (Rs 23-27 lakh) and the upcoming Hyundai Creta EV. Tata's strong brand presence and extensive service network are expected to give it an edge. The company aims to position the Sierra EV as a lifestyle vehicle, blending nostalgia with modern EV technology.
"The Sierra EV represents our commitment to electrifying iconic nameplates," a Tata Motors spokesperson said. "We are confident it will set new benchmarks in design, range, and technology."
