A container truck loaded with biscuits burst into flames after coming into contact with an overhead high-tension wire near Kushchira Bypass under Gopikandar police station limits in Dumka district on Monday. The incident occurred when the vehicle was en route from Raipur in Chhattisgarh to Siliguri in West Bengal.

Driver and Helper Escape with Minor Injuries

The truck driver, Kishore Kumar, and his helper, Alam, managed to escape with minor burn injuries as the cabin was completely gutted by the fire. Eyewitnesses reported that the truck touched the live wire, causing a massive spark that quickly engulfed the vehicle.

Firefighting Efforts

Two fire tenders and a water tanker were rushed to the spot to control the blaze. The fire was brought under control after several hours of effort. The container and its cargo of biscuits were completely destroyed in the incident.

Background of the Driver

Kishore Kumar, a seasoned driver with over 15 years of experience, stated that he noticed the low-hanging wire but could not avoid it in time. The road near Kushchira Bypass is known for its narrow lanes and overhead power lines.

Police Investigation

Local police have registered a case and are investigating the incident. Officials from the electricity department have been asked to inspect the wire and ensure safety measures are in place to prevent such accidents in the future.
