EAM Discusses with Foreign Leaders at BRICS FMM

External Affairs Minister (EAM) S. Jaishankar engaged in a series of bilateral discussions with foreign leaders on the sidelines of the BRICS Foreign Ministers' Meeting (FMM) held in Cape Town, South Africa. The meetings aimed at strengthening diplomatic ties and addressing key global issues.

Key Bilateral Meetings

During the BRICS FMM, EAM Jaishankar held talks with his Russian counterpart, Sergey Lavrov, focusing on enhancing bilateral cooperation in trade, energy, and defense. Both ministers emphasized the importance of a multipolar world order and discussed regional security concerns.

In a separate meeting with Chinese Foreign Minister Qin Gang, Jaishankar discussed ways to manage differences along the Line of Actual Control (LAC) and promote peace and stability in the region. They also explored avenues for economic collaboration.

Other Engagements

EAM also met with foreign ministers from Brazil, South Africa, and other BRICS member states. The discussions covered a wide range of topics including climate change, sustainable development, and reforming multilateral institutions.

Jaishankar highlighted India's commitment to the BRICS platform as a forum for emerging economies to coordinate on global challenges. He reiterated India's support for expanding the grouping's membership and deepening cooperation among member states.

The sidelines meetings provided an opportunity for India to articulate its positions on key international issues and strengthen partnerships within the BRICS framework.
