Visakhapatnam: Three people lost their lives in rain-related incidents in parts of the Alluri Sitharama Raju (ASR) district on Monday. In the first incident, two women died, and four were injured when a tree fell on them during a sudden downpour accompanied by strong gales at the weekly market locality in Pedabayalu.
The deceased have been identified as Korra Chittamma and Korra Chilakamma, both natives of Jarrai village in the neighbouring Koraput district of Odisha. According to reports, the women had come to the weekly market to sell forest produce and millets. While the tribal farmers were selling their produce near a tree, heavy rain coupled with strong winds lashed the area, causing the tree to fall on them. The two women died on the spot, while a few others sustained minor injuries.
In another incident, a 13-year-old tribal girl died due to lightning during heavy rainfall at Sinderiguda village under Dumbriguda mandal.
Light to moderate rain accompanied by thunderstorms and gusty winds lashed parts of north coastal Andhra Pradesh, while thunderstorms affected isolated places over south coastal Andhra Pradesh and Rayalaseema regions on Monday, providing some relief from the intense heat. However, some parts of South Coastal Andhra Pradesh and Rayalaseema experienced hot, humid and uncomfortable weather conditions.
