Venezuela has expressed appreciation for the Indian medical team's efforts to assist victims of the devastating earthquake that struck the South American nation, killing over 1,700 people. Under Operation Amistad, the Indian Army established a 24x7 field hospital staffed by highly experienced doctors at the International La Rinconada Racetrack in Caracas, providing free emergency medical services to those affected.
Indian Embassy Confirms Appreciation
The Indian Embassy in Venezuela confirmed on Monday that Minister of People's Power for Foreign Relations, Andrea Corao Faria, visited the field hospital and appreciated India's efforts. The embassy stated that India has intensified its disaster relief operations, offering a healing touch to the earthquake victims.
Deadly Earthquakes Strike Venezuela
Two powerful earthquakes of magnitudes 7.2 and 7.5 struck on Wednesday evening, among the strongest in Venezuela in over a century. The tremors were felt throughout the region. As of Monday, the death toll had exceeded 1,700, with thousands more injured and many reported missing.
Operation Amistad: Aid and Medical Support
Under Operation Amistad, the Indian Air Force deployed two C-17 Globemaster aircraft carrying 66 tonnes of aid. This included the Indian Army field hospital, over 35 tonnes of relief supplies, medicines, medical equipment, and two BHISHM (Bharat Health Initiative for Sahyog Hita & Maitri) Cubes. These mobile hospitals are designed to provide emergency medical care in disaster zones.
Search and Rescue Missions
Indian rescue and medical teams are working alongside Venezuelan authorities to provide emergency medical care and conduct search and rescue operations. The Indian mission highlighted the collaborative efforts to support the affected communities.
