Bengaluru's Puttenahalli Lake, once a cherished green haven, has transformed into a source of concern for local residents. The lake, which is one of the few remaining green spaces in the neighborhood, is now facing significant environmental challenges.
Deteriorating Conditions
Residents who frequent the lake for their daily walks and jogs on the 920-metre walking track surrounding it have reported a noticeable decline in its condition. The once-lush greenery is now dying, and a foul stench emanates from the lake due to sewage water leakage into a portion of it.
Resident Complaints
Walkers have expressed their disappointment and worry over the state of the lake. The sewage leakage has not only caused an unpleasant odor but also threatens the local ecosystem. Many residents have called for immediate action to restore the lake to its former glory.
The situation underscores the broader environmental challenges faced by urban water bodies in rapidly growing cities like Bengaluru. As the city expands, preserving such green spaces becomes increasingly critical for both ecological balance and community well-being.
