IMD Predicts Light Rainfall in Gujarat Amid Unusually Warm Nights

A fresh western disturbance, currently positioned over south Pakistan and extending up to Gujarat, is expected to bring light rainfall and thundershowers to certain areas of Gujarat on Tuesday, according to the latest bulletin from the India Meteorological Department (IMD). This weather change is anticipated to impact districts including Aravalli, Kheda, Anand, Panchmahal, Dahod, Mahisagar, Vadodara, and Bharuch.

Recent Rainfall and Temperature Trends

On Monday, light rainfall was reported in some villages of Gir Somnath, particularly in rural areas such as Kodinar and Sutrapada. Concurrently, night temperatures across Gujarat have been rising sharply, with many regions experiencing significant deviations from seasonal norms.

The most notable departure was recorded in Diu, where the minimum temperature reached 20.6°C, which is nearly 7.9°C above the seasonal normal, marking the highest positive deviation in the state. Several coastal and Saurashtra districts also reported abnormally warm nights.

  • Ahmedabad recorded a minimum of 19.5°C, about 6.1°C above normal.
  • Vadodara registered 20.4°C, a deviation of +6.2°C.
  • Bhavnagar and Amreli reported minimum temperatures of 20.3°C (+5.6°C) and 18.6°C (+5.5°C), respectively.

Interior and Other Regions Affected

Even interior regions of Gujarat showed elevated night temperatures. For instance:

  • Gandhinagar recorded a minimum of 19.2°C, approximately 5.5°C above normal.
  • Deesa and Rajkot reported minimum temperatures of 17°C, with departures of +6°C and +3.1°C, respectively.

Other areas also remained warm at night:

  • Surat and Veraval had minimum temperatures of 19.6°C (+3.6°C) and 20.5°C (+4.3°C).
  • In Kutch, Naliya recorded a minimum of 12.5°C, still 1.4°C above normal, while Bhuj reported 15.6°C (+3°C).

This combination of impending rainfall and persistently high night temperatures highlights the dynamic weather patterns affecting Gujarat, with the IMD continuing to monitor the situation closely.
