Kerala Chief Minister to Launch Major National Environment Conference in Thiruvananthapuram

Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan is set to inaugurate a significant three-day national environment conference organized by the Haritha Keralam Mission. The event will take place at the Uday Palace Convention Centre in Thiruvananthapuram, commencing on February 23.

Showcasing a Decade of Environmental Progress

The conference aims to highlight the extensive environmental restoration activities implemented across Kerala over the past ten years. This gathering serves as a platform to reflect on the state's achievements and challenges in ecological conservation.

Comprehensive Agenda and Diverse Participation

The program features an impressive lineup of presentations, panel discussions, and expert opinions covering a wide range of critical environmental topics. These include sanitation, waste management, water security, sustainable agriculture, environmental restoration, and the ambitious goal of achieving a net-zero carbon Kerala.

Additional focus areas will encompass energy solutions, transportation innovations, climate change mitigation, green zone development, human-wildlife conflict resolution, nature restoration strategies, and the role of media in environmental advocacy.

Extensive Conference Structure

T N Seema, the state coordinator of Nava Keralam Action Plan and vice-chairperson of Haritha Keralam Mission, provided detailed insights into the event's structure. "There will be 73 presentations across 18 sessions held in two parallel venues," she explained.

The conference will also feature presentations specifically dedicated to Haritha Keralam Mission activities and a special gathering of project beneficiaries who have directly benefited from environmental initiatives.

Exhibition and Policy Recommendations

An accompanying exhibition with over 60 stalls will showcase various environmental restoration activities, providing hands-on learning opportunities for attendees. "Ideas and opinions emerging from the conference, attended by national-level experts, will be compiled and submitted to the government as recommendations for future environmental restoration efforts," Seema emphasized.

Broad Spectrum of Attendees

The event expects participation from a diverse group including ministers, public representatives, environmental experts, researchers, students, youth activists, media personnel, representatives of various organizations, and heads of different government departments. This wide participation underscores the conference's importance as a collaborative platform for shaping Kerala's environmental future.
