The ban covers a wide range of single-use plastic products, including plastic bags, straws, cutlery, plates, cups, and water bottles. The administration has also mandated the use of eco-friendly alternatives such as cloth bags, paper bags, and reusable containers.
Penalties for Violators
Violators of the ban will face hefty fines and possible legal action. Individuals caught using or distributing banned plastic items will be fined up to INR 10,000, while commercial establishments may face fines up to INR 50,000. Repeat offenders could face imprisonment or additional penalties as per environmental laws.

The Ladakh Pollution Control Committee, along with local municipal bodies, will oversee the implementation of the ban. Surprise inspections and awareness campaigns will be conducted to ensure compliance. The administration has also urged tourists and locals to adopt sustainable practices and carry reusable items.
