Jaipur Meeting Proposes Third-Party Monitoring for Aravalli Green Wall and NCR Afforestation Programs
A high-level review meeting held in Jaipur on Tuesday has proposed the establishment of a third-party inspection mechanism to monitor progress and ensure transparency in the Aravalli Green Wall and National Capital Region (NCR) afforestation programmes. The meeting, chaired by Rajasthan Chief Secretary V Srinivas, focused on evaluating ongoing and planned initiatives aimed at tree plantation, environmental protection, water and soil conservation, and the expansion of green cover across the Aravalli mountain ranges.
Review of Departmental Targets and Implementation Strategies
During the review, officials assessed departmental targets under the Hariyalo Rajasthan campaign for the upcoming financial year and discussed steps to strengthen afforestation efforts in Rajasthan districts located within the Aravalli region. A state government official highlighted that the Central government has set an ambitious target of over 52,000 hectares of plantation in Aravalli districts. District authorities have been instructed to coordinate closely with relevant departments to ensure timely and effective implementation of these afforestation projects.
Emphasis on Sustainable and Result-Oriented Plantation Efforts
The meeting emphasized that afforestation activities must be sustainable and result-oriented, rather than mere formalities. Departments concerned were directed to complete all necessary preparations for afforestation during the monsoon season, which is critical for the survival and growth of newly planted trees. The official added that the proposed third-party evaluation system will allow for regular monitoring of progress and help maintain accountability at every level of the implementation process.
Public Awareness and Broad Participation
Officials at the review called for a comprehensive public awareness campaign involving schools, colleges, NGOs, gram panchayats, industries, and the general public. They stressed that broad participation from all sectors of society is critical to the success of the afforestation programmes. This collaborative approach aims to foster community engagement and ensure long-term environmental benefits.
Detailed District Action Plans
To ensure systematic execution, officials were asked to develop detailed district action plans that include specific plantation sites, appropriate species selection, resource allocation, monitoring mechanisms, and clear timelines. These plans are intended to provide a structured framework for achieving the afforestation targets and enhancing green cover in the Aravalli region, contributing to broader environmental conservation goals in the NCR and beyond.
