The state government of West Bengal has announced plans to establish two dolphin parks along the Hooghly River in collaboration with the central government. This initiative aims to conserve aquatic biodiversity and promote eco-tourism in the region.
Dolphin Park Locations
State Urban Development and Municipal Affairs Minister Agnimitra Paul revealed on Thursday that one of the dolphin parks is proposed to be set up at Contai. The exact location for the second park has not yet been disclosed.
Environmental and Tourism Benefits
The parks are expected to serve as sanctuaries for dolphins, which are an indicator species for the health of river ecosystems. By protecting these mammals, the state hopes to enhance biodiversity and attract tourists interested in wildlife and nature.
Additional Infrastructure Plans
Union Minister of Jal Shakti, C R Paatil, stated that there are also plans to install five additional sewage treatment plants in Kolkata. These plants will help reduce pollution in the Hooghly River, further supporting the conservation efforts.
