29 Militants Killed in Pakistan Strikes Along Afghan Border

Pakistan on Monday announced that at least 29 militants were killed in intelligence-based ground operations and calibrated strikes along the Pakistan-Afghan border. The operations were a direct response to a terrorist attack on a paramilitary Rangers headquarters in Karachi on Saturday, according to Information Minister Atta Tarar.

Details of the Operations

Tarar stated that security forces conducted a well-planned intelligence-based ground operation along the border, followed by calibrated strikes targeting hideouts and safe havens of terrorists from Jamaat ul Ahrar and Fitna al khwarij. The strikes killed 29 militants, whom he referred to as 'khwarij'.

On June 28, 2026, security forces carried out a ground operation in the Bajaur district of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, near the Afghan border. This was part of 'Operation Ghazb Lil Haq', which was launched on February 26 in response to alleged attacks by Afghan Taliban forces at 53 locations along the 2,600-km-long border.

Precision Strikes in Afghanistan

On the night of June 28-29, precision strikes targeted terrorist camps and hideouts belonging to Jamaat ul Ahrar and Fitna al khwarij in the border region. According to Tarar, three targets in Paktia, Paktika, and Kunar provinces of Afghanistan were destroyed, killing 25 terrorists. Large quantities of weapons and ammunition stored at these hideouts were also destroyed.

Karachi Attack and Investigation

Earlier, the Army reported that three soldiers were killed in the attack on the Rangers building in Karachi. Security forces killed three attackers in retaliatory fire, and one terrorist was injured and arrested. The banned Jamaat ul Ahrar claimed responsibility for the attack.

According to sources, the injured terrorist revealed during interrogation that he was from Afghanistan. The attack was planned and executed with facilitation from a local terrorist in Bajaur.

Context of Rising Militancy

Pakistan has accused the Taliban regime in Kabul of providing support to terrorists for cross-border attacks. The country has seen a surge in militant attacks targeting police and security forces in recent years, with authorities blaming the Pakistani Taliban, known as Tehrik-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP).
