Headquarters Army Training Command (ARTRAC) commemorated the 27th anniversary of Kargil Vijay Diwas on Saturday, with all ranks reaffirming their commitment to patriotism, courage, and selfless service. The ceremony paid homage to the soldiers who defended India’s sovereignty during Operation Vijay in 1999.
Wreath-Laying Ceremony at Annandale
The commemorative event took place at the Shradhhanjali Sthal in Annandale, Shimla. Lieutenant General Devendra Sharma, PVSM, AVSM, SM, General Officer Commanding-in-Chief of ARTRAC, laid a wreath on behalf of all ranks to honour the fallen heroes. A two-minute silence was observed as buglers played the Last Post.
Speaking at the ceremony, Lt Gen Sharma recalled the extraordinary bravery and unwavering resolve of the Kargil heroes, who fought in harsh, icy conditions. He said their sacrifices continue to inspire generations and reinforce the Indian Army’s commitment to safeguarding the nation’s unity, integrity, and sovereignty.
Lt Gen Sharma Pays Homage
Lt Gen Sharma emphasised that the sacrifices of the Kargil soldiers remain etched in the nation’s collective memory. ‘Their courage and sacrifice are an enduring inspiration for safeguarding India’s unity, integrity and sovereignty,’ he stated. The event served as a reminder of the highest ideals of duty and patriotism upheld by the armed forces.
The ceremony was attended by officers, junior commissioned officers, and other ranks of ARTRAC, all paying their respects to the bravehearts of Operation Vijay. The atmosphere was solemn as the gathering remembered the ultimate price paid by the soldiers.
Visit to Army Heritage Museum
After the wreath-laying, the Army Commander visited the Army Heritage Museum at Annandale. Located in the scenic Annandale valley, the museum showcases the courage and sacrifices of Indian soldiers across generations. Lt Gen Sharma appreciated the museum’s efforts to preserve valuable military artefacts, battle memorabilia, and historical records, ensuring that the legacy of patriotism and military honour is passed on to future generations.
The museum’s exhibits include weapons, uniforms, and photographs from various conflicts, including the 1999 Kargil War. The visit highlighted the importance of preserving military history for education and inspiration.
ARTRAC’s commemoration of Kargil Vijay Diwas underscores the Indian Army’s dedication to remembering its heroes and instilling a sense of pride in the nation’s defence forces. The event also served to motivate current personnel to uphold the highest standards of service.
