Pune: 5-Year-Old Dies in Balcony Fall

A five-year-old boy tragically died after falling from the balcony of his relatives' fourth-floor flat in a housing society on Wagholi-Lohegaon Road on Friday. The Wagholi police registered an accidental death report on Saturday.

Incident Details

Senior Inspector Nandkumar Gaikwad of Wagholi police stated that the boy, identified as Advik Pranav, was playing alone in the living room while his mother and some relatives were chatting in the bedroom. Other family members had gone out. The family originally hails from Bihar.

According to Gaikwad, the child went to the balcony and likely fell through the gap between the iron railings. None of the family members noticed the fall until building residents gathered and raised an alarm. Only then did the family realize what had occurred.

Advik was the only child of his parents. He and his parents had arrived in Pune a week earlier to visit relatives residing in the flat. Police are yet to record statements from the family members.

The incident highlights the need for balcony safety measures, especially for families with young children. Authorities have urged residents to ensure railings are childproof and to supervise children at all times.
