Two Bangladeshi Smugglers Killed in BSF Firing in Tripura

AGARTALA: Two suspected Bangladeshi smugglers were killed when BSF jawans fired at them in self-defence along the India-Bangladesh border in Tripura's Sepahijala district on Friday night. The incident occurred near the Kamalasagar border outpost, a region notorious for smuggling activities, which are allegedly aided by villagers residing on both sides of the border.

Details of the Incident

According to sources, a BSF patrol observed a group of 10-15 individuals transferring goods across the border fence to their Indian counterparts under the cover of darkness. When the patrol challenged the group, the smugglers reportedly began pelting stones at the troops. In response, the BSF personnel opened fire, resulting in injuries to two men who collapsed on the ground.

Identification and Medical Response

The injured individuals were identified as Nabin Hussain (20) and Md Moorsalin (40). They were immediately taken to a nearby hospital, where they were declared dead upon arrival. Police officials stated that the injured men admitted to being from Bangladesh and confessed to their involvement in smuggling activities.

Post-Mortem and Handover

Following an autopsy, the bodies of the deceased were handed over to the Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB), as per standard protocol. The area has been a hotspot for cross-border smuggling, with frequent confrontations between smugglers and security forces.
