US President Donald Trump arrived in Geneva, Switzerland, on Monday en route to Évian-les-Bains, France, to attend the 52nd G7 summit. The recently announced peace deal with Iran is expected to be a key topic of discussion among world leaders.
Trump's Arrival and Schedule
Trump flew overnight from Washington, departing early in the morning. He will hold a one-on-one meeting with French President Emmanuel Macron, the host of this year's summit.
Delegation on Air Force One
Accompanying the President on Air Force One are several high-ranking officials, including US Secretary of State Marco Rubio, Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent, Commerce Secretary Howard Lutnick, Ambassadors Jamieson Greer and Monica Crowley, White House Chief of Staff Susie Wiles, Deputy Chief of Staff Dan Scavino, Deputy Chief of Staff for Operations Beau Harrison, Director of Communications Steven Cheung, Director of the National Economic Council Kevin Hassett, and Director of the Secretary's Policy Planning Staff Michael A. Needham. Also aboard are White House Staff Secretary Will Scharf, Director of Speechwriting Ross Worthington, and Director of Oval Office Operations Walt Nauta.
Focus on Iran Peace Deal
According to CNN, Trump aimed to have a framework agreement with Iran in place before meeting European leaders at the summit. Notably, Trump left the 2025 G7 summit in Canada a day early due to the escalating conflict between Israel and Iran. At that time, the White House stated he would return to the US because of developments in the Middle East.
Trump told reporters after the 2025 meeting in Kananaskis, "I think Iran basically is at the negotiating table where they want to make a deal, and as soon as I leave here, we're going to be doing something." He also warned on Truth Social that "everyone should immediately evacuate Tehran!" without providing a reason. Days later, Trump ordered US warplanes to drop massive bombs on three nuclear sites inside Iran.
G7 Summit Agenda
The 52nd G7 Summit officially kicks off on Monday in the French spa town of Évian, running from June 15 to 17. The summit brings together leaders from Canada, France, Germany, Italy, Japan, the United Kingdom, the United States, and the European Union. France has also invited Brazil, Egypt, India, Kenya, South Korea, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, Syria, Ukraine, and the United Arab Emirates as outreach partner countries.
In a video address on the eve of the summit, Macron outlined an extensive agenda covering regional crises, global trade imbalances, and cybersecurity. He stated, "We will welcome here in Evian the United States of America, the United Kingdom, Canada, Germany, Italy, Japan, the European Commission, and the President of the European Council. Together, we'll try to move forward on the major topics."
India's Participation
This marks the 13th time India will participate in the G7 summit as a partner country, highlighting New Delhi's growing global influence. Prime Minister Narendra Modi will attend for the seventh consecutive time.
Key Discussion Areas
The summit will focus on macroeconomic governance, international financial architecture, global health, energy security, and Middle Eastern geopolitics, particularly the nuclear agreement with Iran.
