The Palm Beach International Airport in Florida has been officially renamed the President Donald J. Trump International Airport, following approval by the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA). The FAA confirmed on Thursday that the name change took effect on July 9, 2026.
Trump Hails Renaming as 'Great Honor'
US President Donald Trump welcomed the renaming, calling it a 'Great Honor' in a post on Truth Social. He thanked the people for their vote in favor of the change and stated that the airport will become one of the 'Greatest and Most Spectacular Airports anywhere in the World.' Trump wrote: 'A very big day in Palm Beach, Florida, where it was my Great Honor to have the Palm Beach International Airport be renamed, by a spectacular vote, The President Donald J. Trump International Airport. The Area is HOT, the Location is GREAT, and the Renovation will be SPECTACULAR. Thank you to all in Palm Beach for your Vote and your Confidence. This will soon be one of the Greatest and Most Spectacular Airports anywhere in the World! President DONALD J. TRUMP.'
Phased Transition and IATA Code Change
In an FAQ, the airport stated that transition activities, including updates to signage, branding, and public-facing materials, will occur in phases. Airport operations and services will continue without interruption during this period. The airport also announced that its three-letter International Air Transport Association (IATA) code will change from 'PBI' to 'DJT' on August 18, 2026. Passengers are advised to use the new code 'DJT' after that date for airline bookings and travel systems.
Background and Legislative Action
The renaming follows Florida Governor Ron DeSantis signing a bill in March 2026 to rebrand the airport after President Trump, as reported by CBS News. Eric Trump, the president's son, announced on Monday that the airport is now officially renamed. In a post on X, Eric Trump said: 'Palm Beach International Airport is now officially.... "President Donald J. Trump International Airport!" Proud to have played a small role in making this happen. Huge thanks to State Representative Florida House District 94 Meg Weinberger, Governor of Florida Ron DeSantis, Florida Attorney General James Uthmeier, and the overwhelming majority in the Florida House!'
Trademark Application and Financial Stance
According to United States Patent and Trademark Office records, Trump's family business filed a trademark application for the airport's name in February 2026. The application covers numerous travel-related items and merchandise, including luggage, flight suits, and plastic shoe protectors for airport security screening. The Trump Organization stated that the trademark application was prompted by the Florida bill but emphasized that the family will not profit from the renaming. 'To be clear, the President and his family will not receive any royalty, licensing fee, or financial consideration whatsoever from the proposed airport renaming,' the company said in a February statement, as quoted by CBS News.
