A woman police inspector attached to the Directorate of Vigilance and Anti-Corruption (DVAC) in Chennai has been placed under suspension on charges of demanding a bribe from a person against whom she was conducting a preliminary vigilance inquiry. Additionally, a DVAC Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP), identified as Jayakumar, who is suspected to have colluded with her, has been transferred to the Nilgiris district.

Details of the Incident

According to police sources, Inspector Vimala had recently been inducted into the anti-corruption agency and was assigned to conduct a preliminary inquiry against a government official. During the course of this inquiry, she reportedly demanded a bribe from the individual under investigation. The misconduct was detected through internal monitoring mechanisms within the DVAC.

Internal Action and Investigation

The issue was promptly reported to DVAC Director A Arun by Deputy Director DIG N Devarani. A detailed inquiry was subsequently conducted, and the findings were submitted to the DVAC headquarters. Based on the evidence gathered, Inspector Vimala was placed under suspension pending further disciplinary action.
