The Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) on Thursday arrested a state tax inspector of the Goods and Services Tax (GST) Department in Mumbai for allegedly accepting a bribe of Rs 10,000 from an applicant seeking a GST registration number.
Accused identified as Sandeep Khalate
The accused has been identified as Sandeep Khalate, who was posted at the GST Department Nodal-7 in Mazgaon. According to the ACB, the complainant had applied online for a GST number and was allegedly asked by Khalate to pay Rs 10,000 for processing and issuing the registration.
Trap laid by ACB
Unwilling to pay the bribe, the complainant approached the ACB's Worli unit. Subsequently, a trap was laid on Wednesday. Khalate was allegedly caught red-handed while accepting the bribe amount of Rs 10,000 from the complainant.
This arrest highlights the ongoing efforts of the ACB to curb corruption in government departments. The investigation is ongoing.
