Hyderabad: In a significant move to complete long-pending irrigation projects in drought-prone Mahabubnagar district, irrigation and civil supplies minister N Uttam Kumar Reddy on Saturday declared that the Congress government is ready to release “whatever funds are required” to fast-track pending works, clear land acquisition hurdles, and complete the Palamuru-Rangareddy lift irrigation (LI) project, Nettempadu, Koilsagar, and Bheema projects.
Foundation Laid for Ajilapur LI Scheme
Speaking after laying the foundation for the Ajilapur LI scheme in Devarakadra mandal, the minister asserted that, unlike the previous BRS government which left several projects incomplete despite a decade in power, the Congress was determined to transform Palamuru (Mahabubnagar) into a fully irrigated and agriculturally prosperous region.
Rejecting Previous Claims
Rejecting claims that the Palamuru-Rangareddy project was nearly complete before the change of government, Uttam Kumar Reddy said not a single acre had received irrigation benefits under the project when the present government took office in 2023.
“Chief minister A Revanth Reddy and I will undertake a comprehensive two-day review of major projects on June 4 and 5. The review will cover Palamuru-Rangareddy LI scheme, Nettempadu LI scheme, Koilsagar project, Bheema LI scheme, and Kalwakurthy LI scheme,” he stated.
Land Acquisition and Financial Allocations
“The CM will review the status of land acquisition requirements and rehabilitation and resettlement issues. Necessary financial allocations will be made to speed up project execution,” he added. The minister alleged that several irrigation projects in the Mahabubnagar district remained incomplete during the previous BRS government. He maintained that work on the project had gathered momentum after the present government took charge.
Paddy Procurement Review
Earlier, Uttam Kumar Reddy also reviewed paddy procurement operations in the district and said Telangana has procured 62 lakh metric tonnes (LMT) so far. The government remains committed to ensuring timely procurement and support for farmers.
