Patna: Stressing the need for prompt resolution of homebuyers’ grievances and greater transparency in the real estate sector, state urban development and housing minister Nitish Mishra on Thursday directed officials to ensure speedy disposal of pending cases before the Bihar Real Estate Regulatory Authority (RERA).
The direction came at a high-level review meeting on Bihar RERA’s functioning, attended by RERA chairman Vivek Kumar Singh, principal secretary Vinay Kumar, inquiry commissioner Sanjay Kumar Singh, joint secretary Manoj Kumar and other senior officials.
Focus on Homebuyer Protection
Mishra said protecting homebuyers’ interests and ensuring accountability are key objectives of RERA. He stressed that all complaints must be resolved within a stipulated timeframe, with public interest at the centre of decision-making.
Quality and Safety Norms
With rapid urbanisation underway, the minister also pushed for strict compliance with construction quality and safety norms. He asked officials and stakeholders to prioritise earthquake-resistant technologies to ensure safe and durable housing.
Boosting Investment and Trust
The meeting reviewed steps to strengthen homebuyer protection, ensure timely project completion and improve grievance redressal. Mishra said maintaining homebuyers’ trust is essential for the sector’s sustainable growth. He also called for boosting investment and improving ease of doing business for developers. Transparent regulations and simplified procedures, he said, would attract investment and support planned urban development.
Expansion of planning areas across the state was also discussed, with Mishra directing officials to expedite the process, saying planned urban growth is crucial for Bihar’s long-term development.
