IIT Gn to Award Degrees to Record 734 Students at Convocation

Ahmedabad: The Indian Institute of Technology Gandhinagar (IIT-Gn) will confer degrees on a record 734 students during its convocation ceremony scheduled to be held on Saturday at the Helipad Exhibition Centre (HEC) in Gandhinagar. The graduating batch is the largest in the institute’s history and includes students from 26 states and Union Territories across the country.

Addressing the media on Thursday, IIT-Gn director Rajat Moona said the graduating cohort comprises students from various academic programmes, including 40 students from the eMasters (executive masters) programme, 18 students from MTech (artificial intelligence), and 15 students from MTech (integrated circuit design). The batch also includes 107 PhD scholars, one of the highest numbers recorded by the institute in recent years.

The convocation ceremony will be attended by Neelkanth Mishra, chief economist at Axis Bank and chairman of the Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI), who will be the chief guest. Dr L N Dorairajan, executive director of AIIMS Rajkot, will be chief guest at the awards ceremony, while Prof Pai Chi Li, president of the Asian Institute of Technology, will be the guest of honour. According to institute officials, Gujarat accounts for the largest share of graduating students with 104 graduates, followed by Maharashtra (84), Uttar Pradesh (81), Rajasthan (74), and West Bengal (58).

The graduating batch consists of 508 male and 225 female students. A total of 46 students will be honoured with medals and awards for academic and other achievements during the ceremony.

Officials said the convocation reflects the institute’s growing academic footprint and increasing research output, particularly with the large number of doctoral graduates being awarded degrees this year.
