Government and private schools across Dharwad district wore a festive look on Monday as students returned to classrooms after the summer break, marked by colourful celebrations, awareness rallies and renewed calls for quality education.
Welcoming New Students
Children stepping into school for the first time were welcomed with flowers, crowns and balloons, while textbooks, uniforms and other learning materials were distributed. In several areas, newly enrolled students were taken in cheerful processions accompanied by band music, colourful decorations and active participation from parents and local residents.
Students carried placards highlighting the importance of education, while slogans urging parents to enrol children in schools echoed through the streets. The celebrations reflected both the excitement among children and a collective effort to strengthen public education.

Inaugurating the programme, deputy commissioner Snehal R said education helps unlock the hidden potential of every child and shapes physical, mental and intellectual development. She noted that schooling instils discipline, self-confidence, cooperation and respect, while also nurturing emotional well-being and healthy habits. Encouraging SSLC students to pursue studies with dedication, she urged them to strive for excellence in the coming years and bring pride to their schools, teachers and parents. She also directed officials to ensure proper support and a conducive environment for children with special educational needs.
ZP CEO Bhuvanesh Patil said sustained efforts over the past three years have improved Dharwad district’s SSLC performance from 18th to 12th place in the state. He congratulated teachers, parents and education officials and called for collective efforts to secure a place among the top five this year.
Union Concerns
Meanwhile, AIDSO members visited schools in Navalur and welcomed students with flowers while voicing opposition to the proposed merger of government schools.
