Kannur District Takes Early Lead in Kerala School Arts Festival
Kannur district secured a slender early lead on the second day of the 64th Kerala State School Arts Festival. The event is currently underway in Thrissur. Kannur accumulated 472 points by Thursday, putting them slightly ahead of their closest rivals.
Kozhikode and Thrissur Hot on the Heels
Kozhikode district is breathing down Kannur's neck with 468 points. Thrissur, the host district, follows closely with 466 points. The competition remains fierce with three full days of events still remaining. The festival promises exciting contests as these districts vie for the top spot.
BSS Gurukulam HSS Tops Overall Rankings
BSS Gurukulam Higher Secondary School from Palakkad emerged as the top-performing institution. They lead the overall rankings with an impressive 113 points. This achievement highlights the school's strong performance across various artistic disciplines.
Busy Schedule with 58 Events Across 25 Venues
Thursday saw a packed schedule with competitions held in 58 different events. These events took place across 25 venues throughout Thrissur. The festival showcases a wide range of artistic talents from students across Kerala.
Appeals Process Sees Some Success for Students
General Education Minister V Sivankutty and Revenue Minister K Rajan provided updates on the appeals process. They reported that 333 lower-level appeals were received from participants. Out of these, 30 appeals resulted in students securing better grades and obtaining refunds.
At the higher level, 25 appeals were filed. Five of these higher-level appeals were allowed, providing relief to the concerned students. The ministers emphasized the fairness of the evaluation process.
Organizers Address Initial Delays
Festival organizers acknowledged some delays during the opening day events. They attributed these delays mainly to the appeals process. However, they confirmed that most venues are now adhering to scheduled timings. The festival is running more smoothly as it progresses.
Food Court Experiences High Demand
The festival's food court has been experiencing brisk activity. On Wednesday alone, approximately 25,000 participants and visitors were served meals. The demand remained strong on Thursday, with more than 17,000 people consuming lunch by the afternoon.
Comprehensive Arrangements for Student Welfare
Minister Sivankutty detailed the extensive arrangements made for student participants. Star accommodation has been arranged at 21 different centers across Thrissur. Currently, about 1,800 students are housed in these facilities.
These accommodation centers are supported by 110 trained personnel who ensure proper care and management. Security and medical arrangements have been significantly strengthened for the event.
Enhanced Security and Medical Facilities
The festival organizers have deployed comprehensive security and medical support. Doctors and ambulances are stationed at key locations to handle any emergencies. Fire force units are on standby to ensure safety at all venues.
Police surveillance has been intensified across the festival grounds. Additionally, around 700 volunteers are providing essential services and assistance at various venues. These measures ensure a safe and secure environment for all participants and visitors.
