Minister Sivankutty made these revealing comments during a heartfelt ceremony in Kollam district, where he participated in handing over a newly constructed house to the grieving family of Midhun, a student who tragically lost his life to electrocution on a school campus last year. The minister explained, "There is widespread acknowledgment that the current Class X curriculum presents an overwhelming challenge for students. After thorough deliberation with the curriculum committee, we have reached a preliminary decision to trim approximately 25% of the syllabus content. This reduction has been carefully planned to maintain the essential scope and educational features of the curriculum while significantly lightening the student load."
Student Feedback Triggers Curriculum Review
The impetus for this syllabus reevaluation came directly from students themselves. Minister Sivankutty revealed that three concerned students personally approached him with complaints about the excessive heaviness of their academic workload. Their genuine concerns prompted immediate action from the education department, leading to serious discussions about curriculum modification.
Simultaneously, the minister provided an update on textbook availability, confirming that new textbooks for Class XI students would be ready for distribution within the next three weeks, ensuring continuity in the educational materials provided to senior secondary students.

A department representative clarified that while discussions about syllabus reduction have indeed taken place, no definitive decision has been finalized at this stage.
