AR Rahman's Acting Debut in 'Moonwalk' with Prabhudeva

In a surprising and exciting career move, the legendary music composer AR Rahman is all set to make his debut as a film actor. The Oscar and Grammy winner will grace the silver screen in the upcoming film 'Moonwalk', sharing the frame with the iconic dancer-actor Prabhudeva. The film is directed by Manoj NS and is scheduled for a theatrical release in May 2026.

From Behind the Music to In Front of the Camera

While fans have adored AR Rahman for decades for his soul-stirring musical genius, they will now witness a new facet of his artistry. For the first time ever, the 'Jai Ho!' composer will be seen performing in front of the camera. In 'Moonwalk', Rahman will portray the character of a funny and angry young film director. Director Manoj NS, in an interview with News18, expressed his delight at this unique casting, revealing that Rahman's involvement brings a special charm to the project.

The director shared insights about filming the song 'Mayile' with both superstars. "It was a wonderful experience shooting the song 'Mayile' with Prabhudeva sir and AR Rahman sir. The song has turned out well and is sure to be a feast for movie lovers in theatres," Manoj NS stated. He particularly praised Prabhudeva's performance, calling it one of his best dance sequences, and thanked choreographer Sekhar Master.

A Gracious Acceptance and a Happy Set

The director's initial plan was to feature AR Rahman only in a song. However, Rahman's screen presence was so compelling that it led to an expanded role. "AR Rahman sir appears throughout the song, adding a cute charm and a very special vibe to it. When I later presented an extended role to him after the song, AR Rahman sir graciously accepted it," Manoj NS explained.

He described the experience of directing the maestro in his first-ever acting scene as thoroughly enjoyable. "This will be a surprise scene for movie lovers... The entire set was so happy seeing ARR Sir having fun as an actor. It will be a scene which people will not expect," the director added, expressing deep gratitude for Rahman's wholehearted support for 'Moonwalk' from day one.
