All the Lord Shiva devotees are going to observe Guru Pradosh fast tomorrow, May 14, 2026. Pradosh days are considered extremely auspicious to appease Lord Shiva. Devotees observe fast from sunrise till sunset and offer their sincere prayers to Lord Shiva with devotion. Pradosh falls on the Trayodashi tithi of Shukla Paksha and Krishna Paksha.

Guru Pradosh Vrat 2026: Significance
The sunset time is called Pradosh. Pradosh Vrat is a significant day in Hindu religion. Pradosh Vrat is observed every month on Trayodashi tithi of shukla paksha and krishna paksha. This time, Pradosh day is going to be observed on Thursday so this will be known as Guru Pradosh Vrat. The day is associated with Jupiter planet and the people who observe this fast, get blessed with the knowledge, wisdom and other worldly pleasures. They will also receive the blessings of the lord. Two different kinds of fasts are performed on the day of Pradosh, according to the Skanda Purana. The severe fast is observed for 24 hours and can be broken on the next day, while the other one is observed during the day and the fast can be broken at night. Anybody, regardless of age or gender, can observe this fast. Devotees who observe fast and do puja with complete devotion and dedication, get blessed by the Lord Shiva and Goddess Parvati. According to scriptures, the day is also known as Pradosham.
Guru Pradosh Vrat 2026: Puja Rituals
- Before beginning the puja ritual, the devotees take a holy bath after waking up early in the morning.
- Place an idol of Shiva Parivaar (Lord Shiva, Goddess Parvati, together with Lord Ganesha, Kartikeya, and Nandi Ji) on a wooden plank.
- Light a diya with desi ghee, offer garlands and sweets (any white sweet).
- To appease Lord Mahadeva on this auspicious day, devotees must offer bel patra and bhang.
- Perform Lord Shiva aarti, Shiv chalisa, and pradosh vrat katha.
- The devotees must go to the temple and perform abhishekam to Shiva lingam by using panchamrit (milk, curd, honey, sugar, and ghee).
- Devotees should recite "Om Namaha Shivaye" while performing abhishekam.
- On the day of pradosh, devotees should recite the Mahamrityunjay Mantra 108 times.
- Devotees who are unable to observe a strict fast should break their fast at night by eating satvik food.
