The tribal welfare department in Ranchi will soon establish an institute offering free skill-based courses exclusively for tribal girls. The proposed institute will primarily focus on paramedical education, aiming to prepare students for various healthcare service roles.
Government Initiative for Tribal Empowerment
Minister for ST, SC, minority and backward class welfare, Chamra Linda, stated that the government aims to provide professional training to tribal girls and improve their employment prospects. “Tribal girls, for example, will learn how to apply plasters on fractures or obtain a diploma in radiology,” he said.
Course Details and Eligibility
Officials noted that paramedical courses are job-oriented programs linked to diagnostic, therapeutic, and technical services. Tribal girls who have passed Class 12 with a science background will be eligible for admission. Sources indicated that students may also have opportunities to pursue related professional courses.
The project will also include institutes for BSc Nursing and ITI courses. Land has already been identified in the city, and the campus is expected to be built on approximately 1-2 acres. The institute, along with hostel facilities, is anticipated to accommodate about 200-300 students.
Funding and Infrastructure
The minister emphasized that the project is intended for the welfare of SC, ST, and backward class girls who often lack access to such education near their homes. The central government will provide grants for tribal welfare and development in tribal areas. Around Rs 26 crore has been proposed and sanctioned for academic buildings, hostels, training centers, and basic infrastructure.
“All facilities, from books to food and hostels, will be free for the tribal girls,” Linda added.
