Kanpur Farmers Receive Expert Guidance on Modern Agricultural Practices
Farmers in Kanpur gathered at the Lal Bahadur Shastri Sabhagar of Chandrashekhar Azad University of Agriculture and Technology on Saturday to receive valuable tips on scientific farming methods. The meeting, organized by the Chandrashekhar Krishak Samiti, focused on enhancing agricultural productivity through modern techniques and diversification.
Emphasis on Agricultural Diversification and Soil Health
Under the chairmanship of Extension Director Dr. V.K. Tripathi, farmers were strongly encouraged to adopt agricultural diversification as a strategy to maximize both yield and income. Dr. Tripathi highlighted the economic and environmental benefits of moving beyond traditional monocropping practices.
Research Director Dr. Mahak Singh provided detailed information on the scientific cultivation of sunflower, covering aspects from seed selection to harvesting techniques that optimize output.
Expressing concern over declining soil health, Dr. Sarvesh Kumar, Head of the Department of Soil Science, emphasized the importance of growing 'dhaincha' green manure. He explained how this practice can naturally enrich soil fertility, reduce dependency on chemical fertilizers, and promote sustainable farming.
Specialized Sessions on Horticulture and Animal Husbandry
Spice scientist Dr. Sanjeev Sachan educated farmers on the scientific cultivation of key crops including garlic, onion, ginger, and chilli. His session covered advanced methods for pest control, irrigation, and post-harvest management to improve quality and market value.
Dr. Ramji Gupta, Head of the Department of Animal Husbandry, informed attendees about milk processing and the critical role of cooperative societies. He discussed how farmers can enhance dairy profitability through better processing techniques and collective marketing efforts.
University Media In-Charge Dr. Khalil Khan noted that farmers also received useful information on cultivating Zaid season crops such as urad, moong, and maize, which are crucial for off-season income generation.
